- Bengaluru-based space-tech startup Pixxel has successfully closed a $100 million Series C funding round, marking the largest private investment in India's space sector.
- The round was co-led by Temasek and Seraphim Space, with participation from 360 ONE Asset, IMM Investment, and existing backers Radical Ventures and growX.
- The capital will fund the deployment of the upgraded Honeybee hyperspectral satellite constellation and the development of the Aurora Earth-intelligence AI platform.
Pixxel, the pioneering space-tech startup headquartered in Bengaluru, has closed a historic $100 million Series C funding round, marking the single largest private investment ever completed in India's space technology sector. The capital raise brings Pixxel’s total funding to approximately $195 million. The round was co-led by Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund Temasek and Seraphim Space. Other prominent participants included South Korea's IMM Investment, 360 ONE Asset, and existing backers Radical Ventures, growX ventures, and M&G Catalyst.
The fresh capital will be deployed to transition Pixxel from a highly specialized hyperspectral satellite operator into a comprehensive 'planetary infrastructure' platform. Hyperspectral imaging captures light across hundreds of narrow spectral bands—far exceeding the standard red, green, and blue of traditional satellites—allowing for the identification of chemical compositions and physical changes on Earth. Pixxel is utilizing advanced machine learning models on its proprietary Aurora platform to automatically convert this raw, multi-band imaging data into actionable intelligence.
Pixxel's near-term strategic roadmap includes accelerating the deployment of its next-generation 'Honeybee' satellite constellation, which features higher spatial resolution and expanded hyperspectral bands. The company has already established significant commercial traction, securing contracts with NASA as part of its $476 million Commercial SmallSat Data Acquisition program, the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), and the Indian Ministry of Defence. The startup is also collaborating with India's space regulator, IN-SPACe, to build the nation's first public-private Earth observation constellation.
This record-breaking round highlights the convergence of space-tech hardware and machine learning software. By pairing high-resolution hyperspectral satellites with specialized AI analytics, Pixxel provides global agricultural, mining, and defense clients with real-time chemical tracking that was previously impossible, positioning India as a global hub for autonomous planetary intelligence.
Will Pixxel successfully launch its first next-generation Honeybee hyperspectral satellite in 2027 as scheduled?
